So, recently my husband and I moved.  When I was trying to switch all of our utilities I ran into an unexpected road block with Time Warner Cable.  It seems the resident who lived in the apartment before us never shut off his service and they would not let me open a new account at an address where an account was already set up.  It turned out that the previous resident was a college student who went back to his native country of India and he obviously was not going to call back from India to cancel his internet connection.   We had to get a letter from our leasing office attesting to the fact that the guy was gone and we were in fact the residents.   Long story short, after having internet for 3 weeks we went to the office to get the service switched over and they cut the internet off and told me it would be 2 weeks before they would cut it back on.  I don’t have rhyme or reason for why they would cut us off, but here I sit in my local library doing an email and blog check.

I have been out of work for a week and I am praying to Allah that the company I work for will understand and not fire me.  No amount of pleading would get them to cut the internet on any sooner.   My husband and I even decided we would look into alternatives because 2 weeks seemed like a really long time to wait.   Turns out that Time Warner really is the best deal in town.  No contracts like with Verizon and Clear Wire and their upload and download times are much faster.   After checking out all our options we decided to be patient, and if this ever happens again I know to get the internet switched over and cut on before I move instead of after.   So, here I sit at my local library grateful that internet access is free and a lesson learned, even though I still think Time Warner done me wrong.

Umm Ebraheem

So, I am back in my Arabic class and I am feeling good about it.  I miss my former classmates, but my new classmate seems very nice.  I am in a program called Golden Arabic Pieces and I am retaking the second book.  I think the review will be good for me and God willing I won’t have to take another break and can just continue with the program.  I am taking steps to get more Arabic in my daily routine and to use my vocabulary words with my husband so that I can retain what I am learning.  The goal of course is to learn Arabic so that I will be able to increase my Islamic knowledge and my study of the Quran.

I would like to work on my Spanish as well but there are only so many hours in the day.

I dropped the ball on my blog, but I am looking to get back in the swing of things.  I have been working on  a few things like being more active and getting exercise, heating healthy, and trying to quit junk food.  I have started back with my Arabic class and trying to be more dilligent.  I am trying to work more steadily.  I can’t stay away from news about the current election cycle! and other general things around the house.  My brother’s wife had a baby last week and we are happy to announce the newest addition to the family is a healthy baby girl.  I have another niece or nephew on the way in May, as well.  Lots going on and I will try to find the time to talk about a few of these things in the coming weeks.

I originally started journaling on the web about a year ago after an acquaintance of mine invited me to Yahoo 360.  It took me a while to get the hang of it but I did enjoy having a place on the web to talk about my various baking projects, a little talk about work and meeting up with other Muslim women.  The only problem there was I did not generate any discussion outside of those other 360 bloggers who took an interest in what I had posted.   I was looking forward to having people leave comments and invited my family and friends to view my blog, but with 360 only community members could post a comment.  After I realized that I was not going to be able to generate any outside interest and communication I began looking into other communities.   I was more drawn to Blogger and WordPress because of their more professional look.

So, here I am at WordPress starting over and hopefully I will like it here and get settled.  I hope to get some drive by traffic to encourage me and keep me interested.  I hope to connect with other Muslim women who journal and anyone else interested in the mundane topics that come to my mind.  I will be posting about Islaam, history, women’s health, crafts, marriage, politics and whatever else has my attention inshaAllah.

Yunus 10:18

And they worship besides Allâh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allâh." Say: "Do you inform Allâh of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?" Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!
