I took my level one final for my Arabic class today.  I am not very pleased with my effort, but this book has been a bit of a challenge for me.  There is a two week break in between this class and the next class and basically I have to spend that time reviewing so I will not have an even more difficult time in the next book.  I am going to send out an email for a local study partner.  While I was taking the test I actually thought of some study techniques that could help me retain what I am learning in class.  It also would help to do the assigned homework, which I must say I am guilty of only half doing this class.  I certainly felt the difference in the class and during the test.  It seems the further I get away from my time in college the more terrible my study habits become.

Muslimahs, if you are looking for an intensive Arabic program that you can take online that focuses on Fushah then Golden Arabic Pieces is now open for registration.  Please let Professor Dalia know that Umm Ebraaheem sent you!

So, I finished the beginning level of the Arabic program that I am taking and got my certificate.  My grade was not as high as it could have been, but I was glad to get through the class.  I have started on level 1 and I am feeling pretty confident about the class so far.  If I keep up with my homework and my studies I should make some good progress and hopefully get a better grade this go round.  I am really excited that I am keeping up with the program and I look forward to my understanding of Arabic to increase.

Well it looks like wordpress’ changes are not going to help me out one bit.  I can’t figure out how to upload a picture from my hard drive onto the site.  So I am not able to post a picture of my certificate of completion.  Hopefully I can figure it out.  If anyone wants to give me a few pointers that would be appreciated.

Umm Ebraaheem

Wa alaikum salaam

I received a comment on my post about my Arabic class and here is my response.

We are studying from a curriculum developed by the instructor.  She is a trained teacher and has developed a very intense and structured class, al hamdulillah.  In this second book we cover body parts, question tools, masculine and feminine, pronouns, the house and items in the house, shopping in the market and food items, how to make words plural, specific and nonspecific words, modes of transportation and how to write stories.  She focuses not only reading but writing and comprehension.  There is really a lot going on in the class.  More than I can comment on.  There are vocabulary words after each lesson which often consists of reading a story that pertains to the lesson.   If you have a desire to learn Arabic she can teach you, inshaAllah.  We meet in a chat classroom on her website.  We send in our homework via scanner and email.  You can see her via web cam.  You will put in some work.  There are exams and midterms and pop quizzes.  I enjoy the class very much and I am getting a lot out of it.  Her focus is on Fusa and not the dialects that you hear around you in the masjid, but once you have mastered the Fusa it will be easier to transition to modern standard Arabic inshaAllah.

For the sister who left me the nice comment if you have any more specific questions I will answer them for you.   I apologize it took so long to get back to you but I have been a busy lady these days.

Yunus 10:18

And they worship besides Allâh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allâh." Say: "Do you inform Allâh of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?" Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!
