Official Decision and Announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia… Just a short time ago, Fatwa-Online was informed of the official decision and announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia that since the moon of Shawwaal was sighted this evening, here in Saudi Arabia, we shall be completing twenty nine (29) days of Ramadhaan (1430 A.H.), in accordance with the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam): ((Fast when you see the crescent. If it is obscured to you, then complete thirty days of Sha’baan. And break your fast when you see the crescent. If it is obscured to you then fast thirty days)), [transmitted by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]. Subsequently, we shall be celebrating ‘Eed al-Fitr on Sunday 20th September 2009, inshaa.-Allaah. |
TODAY IS THE 1ST OF MUHARRAM (the first month of the Islaamic Calendar).
That which is recommended for the Muslim on the day of ‘Aashooraa.

Question: What is obligatory upon the Muslim to do on the day of ‘Aashooraa.. (tenth day of Muharram), and is Zakaat al-Fitr obligatory (on that day)?
Response: It is legislated for the Muslim to fast on the day of ‘Aashooraa., for that which has been confirmed that the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) ordered fasting on (the day of) ‘Aashooraa., however, when (the fasting of) Ramadhaan was obligated, whoever preferred to fast (‘Aashooraa.) did so and whoever preferred not to (do so) did not. And there is no Zakaat al-Fitr (to be paid) on the day of ‘Aashooraa. as there is on `Eedal-Fitr after the month of Ramadhaan.
And with Allaah lies all the success, and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet Muhammad (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.
